The Price of Fame and Fortune.

With the last 10 seconds left in game, tied 93-93, the rookie number 1 pick has the ball in his hands for the final shot...The season has been a rocky one for his team but he has a chance to register a win against one of the top teams in the league. As the clock wind's down and it seems like time has frozen, and the player has a flashback of a similar situation in last years NCAA tourney when he was a star freshmen in college and was given the same opportunity to win the game and seal the schools first championship in 25 years...But he missed. He was determined not to have this occur again. With his mind back in the game the player drives to the basket dunks and lands VERY awkwardly and immediately grabs his knee and is THRIVING in pain, Later on it is reported that the player has a shattered kneecap, 3 broken bones in his right leg and tore all the major ligaments in his knee, and that his career is most likely over, Now...what to do now?
The debate between whether athletes should be made to attend college has shown up in some conversation in the sports world and on sport's forums and websites. You have many people who belive that athletes should at least of the 1 year minimum others who belive they should stay longer, just incase that very senario occurs that I described in the beggining, and if it does that player has some type of schooling to fall back on. In a very sad but true reality of today is that, sports seem to come before education. I think the glamor of being on TV, making millions and running around with groupie's has somewhat blinded those to think that playing on the professional level is all a bunch of fun and games but in reality its is a JOB.
I will be the first to admit that money would be a big motivator in how I would decide things and that if I were placed in there shoes, an injury would not even pass my mind, All I see is green, because you really cant say what happens if you go to the league and get injured, because what if you stay in college and you blow your knee out in college and you career is over, either way you have a blown knee but does the little bit of money you may have earned in the league make it better than if you did it in college and get nothing out of it even if it was your dream to play in the league.
As I continue to watch college sports and see guys jump into the league after a year and sign big contracts I wonder if the players actually think about injury and other things or only see the money involved, but even with the money...Whats the Price of Fame and Fortune.....?

PS: This blog wasn't as strong as my first just wanted to share my thoughts. Although the thoughts may seem scattered I hope they make a little sense LOL. Most of the conversation involving college to the NBA concerns the readiness of the player and not the educational view's which I think is just as important if not more important than readiness, and should be discussed even more.
