A quick guide in DCSportsfan conduct from one user's perspective....
by: pbuckley
To users new and old, consider this a friendly guide to long, interesting threads that are not flame wars, which are childish and get boring real fast.

1) if you disagree with someone's post, attack the post, not the person - there is no honor and nothing to gain by attacking a user because you disagree with what they say - people are allowed to have different opinions than yours - if you find someone's post to be, in your eyes, stupid, than attack the stupidity of the post, not the user, of whom you likely know little.

2) yes, your school/league/conference/team is better than the others, we understand that - it doesn't mean people can't root for their own team and hope the best for their team - don't deny their right as a fan to root for whomever they want

speaking of which...

3) you are allowed to root for whomever you want - only those close to you can assess the validity of you being a fair-weather/bandwagon fan

4) if the only way you can counter someone's post is by demeaning them or cursing at them, then you are probably better off not posting - you are not making yourself look good

5) if someone has posted something that has made your blood boil and you want to retaliate, wait a minute before actually posting - see if you can keep your emotions in check before typing so that you can properly express what you want to convey

6) if you have a problem with a particular user, send them an individual message - don't post it on a thread for all to see when it is only between the two of you - some things do not, and should not, be made public - spare us your particular beef with another user

7) the following stereotypes/generalities (high school version), while having some occasional elements of truth to them, are not by any means universally true and should not be referred to if you want to be convincing in your posts:

1 - all kids at (pick your least favorite school) are obnoxious
2 - the iac is only good at lacrosse
3 - the wcac schools recruit all the time
4 - all iac kids are smarter than wcac kids
5 - all public school kids are dumber than private school kids
6 - girls have as much right to post and have threads about them as boys
7 - teachers are people too

While Mrs PBucks probably wishes at times I didn't post on here at all, I am encouraged by the friendships (albeit the online version) I have made with people from other schools - more than anything else, it has convinced me that every school in the area is doing something right, and that realization should be in the back of your own mind when you think about attacking someone else. We have a great forum here - let's not waste it with petty bickering and instead enjoy being the passionate fans that we are.

respectfully yours,
PBucks
