Knight ran for one touchdown and threw for two more in the 21-point victory.

Good Counsel 42, Carroll 0
The Falcons won their second straight game with an easy victory over the Carroll Lions. Sophomore Hassan Dixon led Good Counsel on the ground with six rushes for 51 yards and one touchdown. Tyler Campbell completed nine of 14 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns while sophomore EJ Scott led all receivers with 77 yards on three catches, including a 50-yard touchdown reception. The “Swarming Sweets”, also known as Michael and James Sweet, provided the intimidation for Good Counsel in all aspects of the game.

Riverdale Baptist 38, Bullis 7
Bullis failed to reach double digits for the fifth straight game in a 31-point loss to Riverdale Baptist. The Bulldogs will host conference powerhouse St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes Saturday afternoon.

Eastern 14, Spingarn 6
With an eight-point victory over Spingarn Friday, Easter moved into a three-way tie with H.D. Woodson and Anacostia for first place in the DCIAA East. However, Eastern must travel to H.D. Woodson on Friday in what may be their toughest game to date.

Anacostia 34, McKinley 12
Anacostia’s tough early season schedule paid off, as the Indians beat McKinley on the road last Friday. Anacostia will have a chance to go 2-0 in the DCIAA East when Spingarn comes to the Southeast school on Friday.

H.D. Woodson 20, Ballou 2
H.D Woodson continued to play solid football as the Warriors shut down Emmanuel Yeager and the Ballou offense. Dion Guy had 10 tackles and Evan Frierson recorded seven tackles and returned an interception for a score for H.D. Woodson. Junior Chris Jackson carried the ball six times for 105 yards and one touchdown—an 80-yard run in the first quarter.

Friendship Edison 53, Cardozo 0
Cardozo trailed 45-0 at the half as Friendship Edison quarterback Delonte Williams threw for four first-half touchdowns, three of which went to Winfred Diggs. Gerald Rich recorded five sacks and forced two fumbles.

Dunbar 26, Theodore Roosevelt 12
The Crimson Tide won their fourth straight game with a 14-point victory over Theodore Roosevelt. Junior linebacker Kevin Burgess recorded 12 tackles and one sack for Dunbar, which was the seventh straight game with 10 or more tackles. Although Roosevelt scored in the third quarter to cut Dunbar’s lead to 14-12, Tyree White hit Deon Long on a 25-yard pass to put the game away in the fourth quarter. Eric Young rushed the ball 27 times for 123 yards and one touchdown in the loss.

Saturday, October 6

McNamara 29, Gonzaga 28
In a game that could eventually decide the WCAC playoff picture, McNamara scored three touchdowns in the final eight minutes of play and prevented Gonzaga from completing a two-point conversion pass with 42 seconds remaining in the game to earn a hard-fought 29-28 victory over the Eagles. In total, there were 31 points scored in the fourth quarter, 20 of which belonged to the Mustangs.

DeMatha 48, O'Connell 0
The Stags scored all 48 points before the start of the fourth quarter to win their fifth straight game. Junior quarterback Tom Chroniger completed seven of nine passes for 116 yards in the victory. On the season Chroniger is 40 for 62 for 667 yards and eight touchdowns. He has only thrown one interception. Kenny Tate only carried the ball once but went 92 yards for the score. Tate also caught three passes for 59 yards. On the season, Tate has caught 15 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns.

St. John's 35, Paul VI 7
The Cadets bounced back from a tough loss to DeMatha and beat Paul VI by four touchdowns. St. John’s will host Bishop McNamara next Saturday in another tough test. The Mustangs nearly beat St. John’s last year before the Cadets rallied to win, 22-14.

Ireton 13, St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes 11
The “Battle for Alexandria” was a defensive clash where turnovers and uncanny big plays proved to be the difference. Ireton quarterback Ed Pastorino got the action started by throwing a swing pass to Conlan McCallister who started to move the ball up field when the swarming St. Stephens & St. Agnes defense stripped the ball. The ball was scooped up by Cardinals running back Doug Vines, who weaved through the last line of the Saint defenders en route to a 65-yard touchdown.
