Baseball Power Rankings (4/15)

1. St. Albans (11-4)
The Bulldogs avoided a scare last week with a 1-0 victory over St. Stephen's/St. Agnes, but, like always, St. Albans got the job done when it counted the most. STA hasn't lost a conference game since April 10, 2007, and they will look to extend their streak with two games against Landon this week (weather permitting).

2. DeMatha (11-3)
The Stags are a perfect 6-0 in the month of April, and much of the credit goes to the play of Ryan Burbrink (.519 AVG/10 SB), Chris Cook (.429 AVG/4 HR/17 R/12 SB) and Kyle Riffe (.371 AVG/4 HR/17 RBI). The pitching staff has also been dominant, posting a collective 2.52 team ERA. DeMatha plays at Malvern Prep (PA) and Boston College High School (MA) this week.

3. Georgetown Prep (8-2)
The Little Hoyas have big bats, and they have proved it by scoring a league-high 38 runs during conference play this season, which is 10 more than any other team. Prep plays St. Stephen's twice this week before taking on No. 1 St. Albans next week.

4. Ireton (9-3)
Although they suffered a 6-0 loss to Bishop O'Connell, Ireton had impressive wins last week against St. Mary's Ryken and Liberty Christian Academy. The Cardinals have big games coming up against Good Counsel, Flint Hill and St. John's.

5. St. John's (9-5)
The Cadets faced stiff competition down in Louisiana and still managed to win two of four games. Weather permitting, St. John's will play a big game against Maret this afternoon. If the game is cancelled, SJC plays at Good Counsel and O'Connell before hosting DeMatha on the 22nd.

6. Wilson (5-0)
This ranking may seem a little high, but you can't really knock the Tigers down until someone beats them up. Wilson has beaten Gonzaga, Landon, Maret, Field School and School Without Walls by a combined score of 54-18. That's just two less runs than the Wilson football team put up (points) in four league games this past fall.

7. Gonzaga (8-7)
Like St. John's, Gonzaga was down in Baton Rouge and split the four games they participated in. The Eagles return to action Saturday at O'Connell then play at DeMatha Monday.

8. Maret (8-4)
"The Maret Way" can vary depending on each sport, but baseball is definately one of their strongest programs. The Fighting Frogs are atop the MAC with a 6-1 record and have scored a league best 71 runs.

9. Paul VI (7-7)
The Panthers begin a brutal four-game stretch in South Carolina this week as PVI participates in the Southeastern Baseball Classic. Paul VI could return extremely hot or they could fall further in the rankings if things don't go their way.

10. O'Connell (8-5)
O'Connell is one of the hotter teams in the WCAC, having outscored their last three opponents 35-1. The Knights have three shutouts this year and could play deep into the season if their pitching and hitting continue to thrive.

11. Flint Hill (9-4)
The Huskies of Flint Hill have won six out of their past seven games, and they can really make a dent in the MAC with victories over Georgetown Day and St. Andrew's this week.

12. Good Counsel (7-6)
After splitting with Mercersburg Saturday, Good Counsel's game with O'Connell was postponed Tuesday. April has been tough on the Falcons, limiting the team to only four games so far.

13. St. Stephen's/St. Agnes (7-5)
It's hard to drop St. Stephen's too far in the rankings even though they lost both of the their games last week. The good news: both losses were to St. Albans and one was by a single run.

14. Potomac School (6-4)
The Panthers have won five of their last six, including an impressive victory over Maret on April 2.

15. Landon (5-5)
The Bears have won three games in a row to pull back to .500. Two wins came in conference victories over Bullis.

16. Sidwell Friends (6-9)
The Quakers have fallen three games under .500 after losing three straight games.

17. Georgetown Day (2-3)
GDS has played four games this month and won two, both of which came against St. James. They will need to beat Flint Hill and Sidwell to be considered legit MAC contenders.

18. Episcopal (2-6)
The Maroon have lost six straight games since starting the season 2-0.

19. McNamara (2-9)
The Mustangs can't seem to play two games in a row without one of them being rained out. With Gonzaga on the schedule Wednesday, McNamara looks to end a two-game slide.

20. Bullis (1-5)
Bullis has lost five straight since winning their opener.

21. St. Andrew's (1-4)
The Lions haven't won in the month of April.

22. St. Mary's Ryken (0-8)
Ryken is still searching for their first win of the season.

23. St. James (0-7)
See above.
