DeMatha, KIMA Advance to Rock Finals
by Ryan Flood 7/21/2009

KIMA vs. McNamara, 7:00pm
Final Score: 48-46 (KIMA)
Leading Scorer: KIMA: John Arledge (23 points)
Player(s) of the Game: KIMA: John Arledge, Jada Johnson (6 points)
Comments: This game was definitely played a lot closer than expected, especially with it being a match up between the second seed (KIMA) and the last seed (McNamara) in the division. With the halftime score at 22-20 (McNamara), anyone could see that this was probably going to be another Rock League fight until the end story.

That it was.

The largest lead created was by KIMA at a consistent six points around the five-minute mark of the second half. However, this lead finally disintegrated once McNamara junior Jonathan Middlebrooks hit two free throws tying the game at 46. With just 11.5 seconds on the clock, Jada Johnson hit the final shot of the game, ultimately sealing the deal for KIMA at 48-46. Led by the consistent effort of John Arledge (23 points) and the game winner by Jada Johnson, the KIMA Hawks will advance to the championship Tuesday at 7pm.

DeMatha vs. Towson, 8:30pm
Final Score: 58-47 (DeMatha)
Leading Scorer/Player of the Game: Towson: Daishon Knight (27 points)
Comments: This wasn't the most exciting game DeMatha has ever had. Things were off to a pretty slow start, especially after the head injury of DeMatha big man Mikael Hopkins (he did not return). This game was also going to be a battle to the end until DeMatha got the lead going into the half at 21-15. The Stags held the Owls at bay for as long as they could; however, this did not stop Towson guard Daishon Knight who finished with a whopping 27 points. As Knight continuously went to the basket and drained numerous three-pointers, he did all he could to keep his team in the running for a place in Tuesday's championship game. Knight's all was just not enough to combat the combined effort of the DeMatha Stags. The Stags will advance to the championship tomorrow against the KIMA Hawks. This should be a good one. So get there early.
