St. Albans Wins Big Over Bullis
by Daniel Dickstein 10/24/2009

Both the fired up football players and their excited St. Albans fans traveled to Bullis Friday night for an IAC match up that many hoped would be a competitive, close game. However, that was not the case as St. Albans left Bullis happy with a 49-7 win under their belts.

St. Albans owned the field the entire night, seemingly scoring at will. On their opening drive just three plays in, sophomore quarterback Henry Brooke (5-6-0, 126 yards) hit junior receiver Thomas Wheet with a 41-yard pass to go up 7-0. After a failed Bullis drive, St. Albans struck again when senior running back Rob Sniezek (11 carries, 170 yards) raced 44 yards for the score to go up 14-0.

“Our running game was on tonight,” Sniezek said of his team’s outstanding play. “We changed up our scheme during the week to try and adjust. It worked well and our O-line made plays.”

After yet another Bullis punt, senior running back Todd Bracken ran 35 yards for another St. Albans touchdown, making it 21-0.

Finally, Bullis looked to gain some life. They drove down the field with patience and organization, and it paid off. Sophomore quarterback Kylor Bellistri threw a screen pass to freshman running back Jonathan Dyer that went for 14 yards for the score. But that was all Bullis would get.

St. Albans matched their three-touchdown first quarter with another three-touchdown second quarter. Wheet made an acrobatic catch in the end zone between two Bullis defenders, Sniezek broke a 45-yard touchdown run, and Henry Brooke punched in a quarterback sneak to lead St. Albans into halftime leading 42-7.

The second half proved to be less intense. As St. Albans put in their alternate players, there was no scoring from either team. To end the game, junior cornerback Andrew Jones picked off Bellistri and ran it in 15 yards for the score. Jones’s “pick-six” finalized the score at 49-7 St. Albans and sent the Bulldogs back to D.C. an elated team.

Bullis falls to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the IAC. With the big win, St. Albans improves to 4-3 overall on 2-0 in conference play.
