WCAC Dominates
Friendship vs. Paul VI, 5:30pm
Final Score: 51-27 (Paul VI)
Leading Scorer: Paul VI: Jamall Robinson (14 points)
Bottom Line:
With just five players available - Coleman Johnson (10 points), Brandon Alston (12 points), Jamall Robinson (14 points), Chukwodzie Enweze (10 points) and Orai Nicolai (5 points) - Paul VI was still able to defeat doubly stacked Friendship Collegiate.
By halftime, Paul VI had taken a 12-point lead but the team never took its foot off the pedal; it came out with even more aggressiveness in the second period. By going on a quick 19-2 run after the break, Paul VI was able to increase its lead from twelve to thirty.
Friendship's Joseph Lundy (3 points) tried his hardest to give his squad some sort of hope but it was to no avail. In the end, with lots of aggression, athleticism and teamwork, Paul VI was able to advance to the semi-finals on Monday.
Hopefully, they will be able to suit up more players to stand a chance against...
DeMatha vs. High Point, 6:40pm
Final Score: 53-57 (DeMatha)
Leading Scorer: DeMatha: Jairius Lyles (24 points)
Bottom Line:
High Point took control of the game very early on and actually held a lead until DeMatha starting breaking away.
DeMatha's domination began with strong dribble penetration by Jairius Lyles (24 points). Lyles picked up his first twelve points by the end of the first half and gave his team a one point lead at that point (24-23). Lyles then passed the torch to Kelvin Howard (10 points), who knocked down a couple of big three-point shots.
Despite heavily favored DeMatha's strong play, High Point refused to back down. With just under a minute and a half on the clock, High Point managed to get within six points, but DeMatha responded.
After a couple more drives by Lyles and three more heart-breaking blocks by BeeJay Anya (9 points), DeMatha was able to seal its opponents' fate and maneuver into the next round.

McNamara vs. St. John's, 7:50pm
Final Score: 50-45 (McNamara)
Leading Scorer: McNamara: Justin Dade (11 points)
Bottom Line:
In what was played like a regular season game by two WCAC powerhouses, McNamara guard Marcus Thornton (9 points) and Justin Dade (11) stole the show.
Due to Thornton's offensive prowess and defensive quickness, McNamara was able to take a quick lead on St. John's and hold on to it.With just two minutes left on the clock, St. John's began to change gears and attempt a comeback but McNamara wouldn't give much ground.
With a couple of final buckets and strong defense, McNamara was able to pull out the victory and move into the semifinals to take on another league foe.
Carroll vs. Gonzaga, 9:00pm
Final Score: 57-34 (Gonzaga)
Leading Scorer: Gonzaga: Nate Britt (14 points)
Bottom Line:
Coming off a tremendous win over the Kima Hawks the night before, it was natural to expect Carroll to bring the same kind of energy against Gonzaga. Unfortunately for them, the team couldn't get it going against the Eagles and was ousted from the playoffs.
Gonzaga blazed through both halves and smothered the Carroll attack. Its lead grew slowly but surely until it held a 20-point advantage. The Eagles played strong to the finish and advanced to the next round.
